What Is Included in ProTech’s GAF System Plus Warranty?

When investing in a new roof, one of the most important—and most misunderstood—parts of the process is the warranty.

At ProTech Construction & Roofing, we install roofing systems backed by the GAF System Plus Warranty, one of the most trusted warranties in the industry.

But what does that actually mean for you as a homeowner?

Let’s break it down clearly.

What Is the GAF System Plus Warranty?

The GAF System Plus Warranty is an enhanced manufacturer-backed warranty available when a full GAF roofing system is installed by a certified contractor.

It goes beyond a standard shingle warranty by covering both materials and installation-related workmanship—something basic warranties typically do not include.

What’s Included in the System Plus Warranty?

1. 50-Year Material Coverage

GAF provides coverage against manufacturing defects in the roofing materials for up to 50 years (for qualifying lifetime shingles).

This includes key components of the roofing system, such as:

  • Shingles

  • Starter strip shingles

  • Ridge cap shingles

  • Underlayment (when installed as part of a system)

This system-based approach aligns with guidance from organizations like the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, which emphasize that roof systems—not just shingles—work together to protect a home.

2. Workmanship Coverage (Up to 20 Years)

One of the biggest advantages of the System Plus Warranty is that it includes workmanship coverage backed by GAF.

That means if there’s an issue caused by installation error, it’s not just on the contractor—GAF stands behind the work as well.

This is a major step up from standard warranties, which typically only cover defects in the shingles themselves.

3. Tear-Off and Disposal Coverage

If a covered issue occurs, the warranty can include:

  • Cost of removing defective materials

  • Disposal of roofing debris

  • Replacement materials

This helps protect homeowners from unexpected out-of-pocket costs tied to a failure.

4. Non-Prorated Coverage Period

For a specified period (often the first 10–20 years, depending on the product), the warranty is non-prorated.

That means 100% of covered costs are handled—no depreciation or reduced payouts during that time.

5. Transferability

The warranty can typically be transferred to a new homeowner within a certain timeframe.

This can be a valuable selling point if you decide to move, as it adds confidence and value for potential buyers.

Why This Warranty Matters

Not all roofs—and not all warranties—are created equal.

According to the National Roofing Contractors Association, proper installation and system design are just as important as the materials themselves.

The GAF System Plus Warranty reflects that by covering both.

In simple terms:

  • Standard warranties = materials only

  • System Plus Warranty = materials + workmanship protection

That’s a big difference when you’re protecting one of your home’s most important investments.

A Real-World Example

Something you will often hear is that warranties are worthless. And while that may be true in some cases, we know from personal experience that GAF’s warranty is rock-solid.

In 2023, I went out to give an estimate for a homeowner in Montgomery, Alabama. When I arrived, I saw the homeowner already had a new roof, but something didn’t look right. When I asked the homeowner, he informed me that another roofer has just installed the roof last week, but the colors of the shingles didn’t match.

This homeowner contacted GAF about the issue. Within a month, the homeowner got a new roof and it was fully covered by GAF. They recognized that shingles that were just installed should not have mismatched color issues, and they stepped in to make it right.

Another example is a situation that happened with my aunt. About a month ago, she calls me and asks me about getting her roof cleaned. I let her know this isn’t a service Protech provides, however, she should not pay out of pocket because it should be covered under her warranty. Her roof is about 12 years old and GAF’s system plus warranty covers roof stains for 25 years.

Long story short, my aunt called GAF, and within two weeks GAF paid for her to have her roof cleaned.

Seeing first-hand experiences with GAF standing behind their warranty gives me the utmost confidence in their product, and I am happy to be a contractor that can provide it.
